§ 19-55. Limited parking zones.

  • (a)

    Creation of fifteen-minute limited parking zones. The public convenience and necessity so requiring, there is hereby created within the city a class of parking to be designated as fifteen-minute parking zones or spaces, in which vehicle parking shall be limited to a maximum period of fifteen (15) minutes.

    (b)

    Creation of thirty-minute limited parking zones. The public convenience and necessity so requiring, there is hereby created within the city a class of parking to be designated as thirty (30) minute parking zones or spaces, in which the vehicle parked shall be limited to a maximum period of thirty (30) minutes.

    (c)

    Designation by board. The board of mayor and commissioners of the city may, from time to time, designate one or more spaces at or near federal, state or local government offices, including agencies funded in whole or in part by the city or by the Board of Supervisors of Coahoma County, as either fifteen minute parking zones or spaces, or thirty minute parking zones or spaces, as, in the discretion of the board of mayor and commissioners, may be required, by resolution duly adopted and spread upon the minutes of the board of mayor and commissioners.

    (d)

    Overparking in fifteen-minute zones. It shall be unlawful for the driver of any vehicle to park or allow his or her vehicle to remain for any period of time longer than fifteen (15) minutes in any zone or parking space so designated and marked as a fifteen (15) minute parking zone.

    (e)

    Overparking in thirty-minute zones. It shall be unlawful for the driver of any vehicle to park or allow his or her vehicle to remain for any period of time longer than thirty (30) minutes in any zone or parking space so designated and marked as a thirty (30) minute parking zone.

    (f)

    Signs. The public works director or other designee of the board of mayor and commissioners of the city shall cause appropriate signs to be posted in all areas where parking is limited, including such time limitations as may be designated by the board of mayor and commissioners for such zone or parking space so designated, and containing such other language as may be necessary and appropriate.

    (g)

    Penalties. Any person, firm or corporation violating any provision of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall, upon conviction, be punished by a fine of not more than $250.00, plus all costs of court. A separate offense shall be deemed committed on each day or part thereof during or on which a violation occurs or continues.
